Safety & Fun

When purchasing any vehicle for a child, be it a balance bike, a scooter or a ride-on bike, you should keep in mind that the protective gear is just as important. Why are the knee and elbow pads so important? What should you look for when buying such a set?

Knee and elbow pads: protect your kiddo’s joints

Some parents believe that simply buying a helmet is sufficient to protect their child. But a bike helmet only protects the toddler’s head. Falling off a bike usually translates into cuts and bruises, but it can also mean bone fractures. Twisted or fractured joints are especially dangerous. A fractured kneecap or an elbow is an injury that requires long-term treatment and rehabilitation. Even in a best-case scenario, a once damaged joint might never fully regain its former mobility. But with the proper gear, all of that can be easily avoided.

Protection against abrasion

Knee and elbow pads protect not only against serious injuries, but also against scratches and cuts which occur frequently in every active kid’s life. Minor injuries should not be overlooked, however: they too take a toll on your kid as discomfort can often be experienced with every movement. Knee and elbow pads provide an excellent buffer in the event of a fall.

How to choose the right protectors?

Knee and elbow pads for children do not have to be professional: these types of models are recommended for professional athletes or those who skateboard or ride scooters on a regular basis. Some very basic models are absolutely sufficient for kids on bikes and scooters. It is important that the gear features sturdy and adjustable fastening stripes. Note: kiddie gear should be easy to use.
